An alternative to liquid crystals is created
The group of chemists from university of California in Riverside headed by Professor Jadun Yin has managed to create magnetic nanosolution which changes color if exposed to the external magnetic field.
This marvelous substance is a solution of ferric oxide nanoparticles collected in the special way. These particles, which Jadun Yin calls light crystals, have evident magnetic properties. If the solution enters magnetic field, particles change their orientation in space.
The scientist has emphasized, that this is the first-ever creation of the light crystals which can be operated for getting of electromagnetic waves of all visible range lengths. This magnetic nanosolution can become an alternative to liquid crystals.
And since ferric oxide, in opinion of professor Yin, is cheap, nontoxic and easily accessible, the new technology will be very profitable.
