Water on a far huge planet
Astronomers have discovered water vapour in an atmosphere of a huge planet outside the Solar system. It became possible with the help of a powerful NASA telescope Spitzer.
The signs of water vapour have been found in the rays of light in the atmosphere of a planet called HD 189733b when it passed in front of its star. This star is in a constellation removed on 64 light years from the Earth.
Opening reported in Nature magazine, is the second case in science history when water was found on exoplanet, that is a planet outside our Solar system.
Some researchers believe that water presence can be the usual phenomenon for all gas giants, as the Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and the Neptune in the Solar system. And though the water is one of the key elements for life creation, it makes no sense in the case with HD 189733b: this planet is too hot.
Planets of this type are named “the hot Jupiter”.
Other team of astronomers - from the United States – at the beginning of the current year has discovered water vapour in an atmosphere of one more “hot Jupiter”, a planet called HD 209458b.
