Saturn annuluses surprised the scientists
The new data received from Cassini spacecraft, show, that astronomers incorrectly pictured the structure of Saturn annuluses – it appeared that they are made of constantly born and dying combinations of particles.
The most dense and powerful rings of this giant are made not simply of great variety of particles which continuously revolve on the orbits, but from their rather dense accumulations (bunches, clumps) which are divided by almost empty space.
It is necessary to note, that planetologists have been very much surprised by the precise organization of particles in an annulus, and this is despite the fact that they constantly collide.
Astronomers mark, that such important opening was made due to the great number of measurements of brightness of the stars behind the annuluses from Cassini’ point of view. According to the main researcher of images with ultra-violet spectrograph Cassini, Larry Asposito, Saturn annuluses differ from that picture which is stored in our memory. In fact initially scientists thought that annuluses are made of an einstufig cloud of particles, and instead of it they have seen, that particles are concentrated together with empty space between them.
