Orbital satellite COROT has found the first planet
The orbital satellite COROT launched at the end of 2006, has found the first planet which has received the name COROT-Exo-1b. It is informed, that the accuracy of devices is so high, that they even managed to fix some seismic activity inside a parental star of this planet.
Scientists managed to find a new planet with the help of long-known in astronomy method, based on brightness registration of a star.
According to the received data, COROT-Exo-1b is the heated gas giant, a so-called hot jupiter, with 1,78 times bigger radius, than at our Jupiter. The planet revolves around the yellow dwarf similar to the Sun, with the period approximately in 1,5 Earth day. This system is on 1,5 thousand light years distance and is settled in Unicorn constellation.
Project participants say that COROT-Exo-1b watch was carried out with very high accuracy never available earlier. Also researchers mark, that the received data are still crude and need amendments.
Let’s remind that COROT satellite, created by efforts of several international organizations led by the European space agency (ESA), was launched December, 27, 2006 from Baikonur space centre. The main purpose of the project is search of extra-solar planets.
