Scientists: Mars is half covered with ice
The American researchers informed that they have obtained the data by means of a new Mars scanning method. It has shown that the surface of the planet can half consist of ice.
The new method of water search, applied by the American scientists, gives more exact results, than the earlier one. With the help of this method, which is based on taking infrared heat radiation of the planet, new data were received. They show strong fluctuation of depth on which there can be an ice under a surface of the Red planet.
This new method was invented by Doctor Joshua Bandfield from Arizona University.
Doctor Bandfield also considers that ice can take from third up to half of Mars surface approximately. These data can be very important for the launch of the new satellite to Mars in August this year, which will search ice on a surface of the planet.
Till now scientists searched for water by means of a spectrometer set on Odyssey sonde in the orbit around Mars. This device takes a level of radioactive emanation on a planet and determines compound materials.
