Biologists have revealed a secret of regeneration
The group of scientists from University College in London has discovered during the research a key albumen, which is responsible for regrowth of the lost lizards’ limb, informs Reuters.
Ability of tritons and salamanders to restore fast enough the lost limbs intrigued biologists, but till now they could not open the mechanism responsible for regeneration.
As a result of scientific research biologists have managed to ascertain at last, that protein nAG plays central role in generation of immature cell groups. This protein is contained in nerve cells and cells of a skin.
Significance of this protein confirms that fact that when nerve cells were separated from limbs during tests, all of them continued to grow, provided scientists artificially caused protein production in cells.
According to David Stokoom from University Perdue (USA), these data open new prospects for regenerative medicine researches. “When we will be able to restore parts of a body is not clear for a while, however discovery of protein nAG – is definitely the big step forward”, - added he.
