Swedes have invented free-of-charge mobile communication
Swedish firm TerraNet tests new technology which allows to call from one mobile phone to another directly without use of a base station and free-of-charge.
Inventors hope that this technology will allow to improve considerably communication system in less developed countries, especially in the remote rural areas and deserts.
At the moment this system is tested in Tanzania and Ecuador.
TerraNet’s founder Anders Karlius has told that the idea of such phone has appeared when he was on a safari in Tanzania in 2002. He has suddenly found out that because of absence of a base station, he could not call his friends who were in the other jeep in several meters from him.
The radius of a signal from each phone is one kilometer. Besides it serves as the transfer device for calls from other phones due to what the network extends.
At the moment this technology is accessible only to users of TerraNet phones, but, according to Anders Karlius, all mobiles phone can soon be connected to this system, and the present model of mobile communication will gradually die off.
He says that the majority of large telephone companies have considered new idea with suspicion and try to convince users that TerraNet technology is inefficient.
Anders Karlius has told that Ericsson, has invested about 6 million dollars in his firm, and it proves that the new system has future.
