British company Astrium has created the project of the device, capable to analyze the trajectory of an asteroid 2004 MN4, known as Apofis, and to estimate risk of its collision with the Earth in 2029 and 2036.
On April, 13, 2029 this asteroid will pass in approximately 40 thousand kilometers from the Earth, closer, than artificial communication satellites. In 2004, soon after opening of an asteroid, scientists believed that there was a probability of its collision with the Earth, however later researches shown that the caches were insignificant.
Nevertheless this asteroid is watched closely, as if in 2029 it will pass through so-called gravitational keyhole, during the next rapprochement with the Earth on April, 13, 2036 it will almost for certain collide with our planet.
Astrium has developed the project of the device called Apex, which can reach asteroid in 2014 and revolve around it, gathering all necessary information. In opinion of company’s employees, it is important to gather the information till 2025: then, if necessary, the trajectory of asteroid’s movement can be easily changed.
