Group of astronomers, having analyzed the data from SMART-1 and Clementine sondes could find out much about the geological and volcanic past of the Moon, informs European Space Agency (ESA).
Experts informed that, for example, the pool known under the name the Sea of humidity, most likely, was formed due to blow of a heavenly body to the surface of the Moon.
The Sea of humidity has the round form and a thin crust, and also it has sites of a lunar crust which are gravitational anomaly.
Other known pool on the Moon, Ocean of storms, according to the sondes was formed about four billions years ago owing to tectonic activity.
Let’s remind that Clementine was launched by NASA in January, 1994 and has finished the mission in June of the same year. SMART-1 revolved around the Moon from 2003 to 2006. In September, 2006 it has finished the mission, crashed in Moon surface and left ten meters crater on it.
